Biography

During his exceptional career in film, Anthony Hopkins turned a very large number of feature films, winning the Oscar for best actor in 1991 for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.

Anthony Hopkins was born on 31 May at Margam, near Port Talbot in Wales. At 17, he joined an amateur theater company of the local YMCA and participates in its first show
1955 to 1957. After two years of military service, he returned to acting and an audition to enter the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts of London. Holder of a scholarship, he studied drama until 1963.

Desiring to enter the National Theatre, where he auditioned before Sir Laurence Olivier who was then the director. It offers him his first role, that of Andrei in The Three Sisters by Chekhov.

Two years later in 1967 he replaced Laurence Olivier, suffering in part from Strindberg, Dance of Death. At this time Hopkins made his film debut. This is an immediate success: role of Richard the Lion Heart in A Lion in Winter, where his partner Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn. The film itself, won the Oscar for Best Film.

Anthony Hopkins then leads to his career in cinema, theater and television in the UK and the USA. American audiences discovered him in 1973 in QB VII by Leon Uris, the first American mini-series.

Winner of the 1991 Oscar for Best Actor for The Silence of the Lambs was also cited in the award for The Remains of the Day and Nixon, and the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of John Quincy Adams in Amistad

Regularly sought by leading directors and American English, Hopkins has also linked his name with films like David Lynch's Elephant Man, Desperate hours of Michael Cimino, Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula, Howards End and James Ivory's Surviving Picasso , Legends of the Fall Edward Zwick At loggerheads by Lee Tamahori on a script by David Mamet, The Mask of Zorro by Martin Campbell with Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Meet Joe Black Martin Brest or Bad Company Joel Schumacher.

He directed the 1990 documentary Dylan Thomas: Return Journey and toured and performed in August 1996 by Uncle Vanya, two films which he also composed the music.
Anthony Hopkins, who adopted U.S. citizenship in 2000, is Knight of the Order of the British Empire and Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters.

In 2003 he was the poster of The Color of lies by Robert Benton from the novel by Philip Roth and Nicole Kidman, until two years later to take the role of Ptolemy in Alexander-old Oliver Stone .

In 2007, he joined the cast of Beowulf alongside Angelina Jolie. It is found alongside Benicio del Toro in Wolfman (2010) by Joe Johnston.
